David Andrew began yoga in 1989 as a journey into Life, Creation and Soul. He has made numerous trips to India to study with his teachers, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois, and to gather inspiration from the many faucets of yoga. In 2009, he was among the first to receive the newly created Level 2 Authorization from Sharath Jois, director of K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute. When Jois Yoga Encinitas, opened in California in 2010, David served as a principal instructor of the Mysore Ashtanga program and assistant manager until 2014. David continues to work with Jois Yoga to host Sharath in California. David currently teaches a traditional Ashtanga Mysore program in Costa Mesa, CA. Most recently, he was listed among the top 100 most influential yoga teachers in the USA.

Whether teaching traditional Mysore Ashtanga Yoga, workshops or intensives, he weaves together both the physical and philosophical aspirations of yoga. Through an emphasis on the foundation of yoga practice, students both beginning & advanced are directed to discover new dimensions of progress. Three full healthy meals a day (with vegetarian and fish options) in additional to an afternoon snack, prepared with care by the chef Camila Taquari who has worked with healthy and tasty cookery for many years. She is graduated from Cooking School Wilma Kosevi and Sivamanda Yoga Vendata in nutrition ayurvédica in the Alain Ducase School in Paris, valuing the local foods, using flavors from the local kitchen and healthy recipes. The Ubatumirim Hinterland is also known for organic production of cassava, cambuci, juçara pulp and, of course, banana! The Cooking Bananal Ecolodge add these foods to your menu ecogastronômico, so named for adding value to local products. We seek to use local ingredients as much as possible to enhance your experience of the culinary culture of the land, as well as to reduce our carbon footprint.

Description of Two (2) lessons- Level 1 – Surf School & Beginners. Board and equipment provided (2) hr. excursion to the beach with English and Portuguese speaking instructor, (30) minutes’ class (daily knowledge & conditions, basics of safety, surf ride etiquette, do’s and don’ts in the water and ocean rules), and (1 ½) hours of practice in the ocean under supervision.

Description of Two (2) lessons Level 2 – Intermediate surfer – Includes:

Two (2) Guided Half Day Excursions to advanced surf beaches with access by car and trails (depending on daily conditions, trekking to these beaches is moderate to difficult, surfers carry their own board. Some trails may take (30) minutes to (1 +1/2) hours trekking by foot, with supervision of a bilingual local surf guide (English and Portuguese speaking)

-Van transfers from Retreat center to the closest access beach and return to the Eco-Lodge.

Surf Package 2 – “Avid” Surfer (Beginner, Level 1 and Level 2)

Important: Our Shaman is an Amazonian born Brazilian, and therapies are ministered in Brazilian Portuguese, the Indigenous language. An English translator will be available during therapy in case assistance of a native interpreter is needed.

Shuttle transfers from São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) International airport to Bananal Eco-Lodge for scheduled arrivals and departures are included. Our Shared shuttle departs São Paulo Guarulhos Airport on July 31, at 11 am (Local time in São Paulo, Brazil) to the beach (approximate 5 hrs. drive) and scheduled departures on August 7th, at 10 AM – from Ecolodge to São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU)International Airport, with ETA at the airport for the 8 day Retreat and on August 10th, at 10 AM for the 11 day Retreat.

Airport transfer: Transportation is included in the package is for pick-up and drop off at the São Airport Guarulhos international Airport code (GRU) in the state of São Paulo on the scheduled dates noted above. Any participant needing a different arrangement may inform us of any special needs at the time of registration and we will try our best to assist.

Temperature/Climate: The climate in the São Paulo coastal region is warm and wet. The average temperature in Ubatuba, Brazil is t 21.4 degrees Celsius (70.5 degrees Fahrenheit).The warmest month (February) is fairly hot with a mean temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit). July is the coolest month (very mild) with a mean temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius (63.68 degrees Fahrenheit).

Passport/Visa: Visa requirements are dependent on your nationality and are a responsibility of the traveler. Please check your country’s requirements, applications for visas are at the Brazilian consulate or embassy. You must have a passport valid for six months after your arrival date to be permitted entry into Brazil.

Medical Information: You are recommended to seek the consultation of a qualified medical practitioner and travel clinic for the latest information on health and vaccinations needed prior to your travel to Brazil Travel health insurance is highly recommended but optional.

Tips for flying in Brazil*

  • Proper clothing for adventure in nature: Yoga clothes, hiking pants, bathing suit for water and ocean activities, hat, environmental friendly personal toiletries, mosquito repellent, sunblock, light rain jacket are recommended.
  • Shoes for hiking (excursions to trails, waterfalls) such as boots, shoes, or hiking sandals, water immersion neoprene or similar anti slip shoes.
  • Cash in Brazilian Reais or US dollars for shopping in town or additional group therapies. (Currency exchange is available in the São Paulo (GRU) Airport)
  • Camera

*Travel insurance is highly recommended but not required

RETREAT PRICING DOES NOT INCLUDE AIRFARE AND AIR TRANSPORTATION FEES

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Full Refund (minus $500 cancelation fee and minus $100 processing fee): Cancelations will be accepted and a full refund given, minus $600 total for both fees above, if notification is sent and received via email notification no later than 31 days prior to the purchased Retreat start date. No Refund: Within 30 days or less of the purchased Retreat start date, no Cancelations will be accepted and NO refunds will be given.

The Retreats must have a minimum of 5 Participants in order for the Retreats to be held. In the case that fewer than 5 Participants register for the retreat, all registered members will be refunded of 100% of the funds. Should cancellation due to lack of participants occur, you may also have the option to stay with us with a different arrangement of food and activities and a re-calculated price.

Should one of the leaders of this Retreat become ill, have serious injury or death (hopefully not!), the remaining leaders will lead the Retreat. Should all of the assigned leaders fall ill, have serious injury, or death (again hopefully not!) all Participants of this Retreat will received a 100% refund of the funds paid upon registration. However, the retreat Organizer cannot be responsible for cancellation fees for airline or other transportation paid to others. (Proper travel insurance is recommended)

If the Participant requests cancellation 30 days or less prior to the retreat’s start date, or in case of no-show, NO REFUNDS will be made. If the cancellation is requested 31 days + prior to the Retreat’s start date a cancellation fee of $500 USD + $100 USD Processing Fee will be retained and the remainder will be refunded in the same form of payment originally received.

Retreat Organizer is not responsible for airline or travel arrangements by the Retreat Participant, and Retreat Organizer assumes no responsibility or liability for losses due to cancellations arranged by the Retreat Participants are responsible for seeking refunds on their tickets from the airline carrier from which their ticket is issued. Some airline tickets might have penalties or surcharges for cancellation, or may be completely non-refundable.

There will be NO REFUNDS for any Retreat Participant who attends the Program, or who leaves the Program prior to its conclusion, for whatever reason, or no show. Dissatisfaction or complaints about the Program will not result in any partial or full refund.

RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE: The Retreat Organizer reserves the right to accept, decline, or retain any person as a Retreat Participant at the Program at any time without liability and without any obligation to pay a refund or any other amount whatsoever.

RESERVATION RESTRICTIONS Please note, any prospective Retreat Participant with a disability, pre-existing medical condition, or medical history requiring special attention or treatment, should advise the Retreat Organizer at time of booking the reservation and are advised to consult with a medical specialist prior to reserving space in the Retreat. People who are unable to travel alone or who would require special assistance or handling must be accompanied by a companion who will provide the required assistance. The Retreat Organizer assumes no responsibility for cases such as these.

TRAVELING ABROAD

Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents for Brazil.

INSURANCE: All Retreat Participants in the Program are strongly advised to get travel, medical, accident, cancellation, and baggage insurance independently. The Retreat Organizer carries no travel related or medical insurance whatsoever for the Retreat Participants.

PROPER TRAVEL DOCUMENTATION (Passports & Visas)

TERRA BRASILIS RETREATS STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT ALL GUESTS TRAVEL WITH A PASSPORT THAT IS VALID FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS BEYOND THE END OF YOUR STAY IN THE COUNTRY

It is the sole responsibility of the Retreat Participant to identify and obtain all required travel documents for your entire stay in Brazil and have them available when necessary. These appropriate, valid travel documents – passports, visas, family legal documents and possibly, inoculation certificates, are required for boarding of air flights and re-entry into the United States and other countries. Guests who do not possess the proper documentation may be prevented from boarding their flight or from entering a country and may be subject to fines.

No refunds will be given to individuals who fail to bring proper documentation. Some countries you may visit will require that you obtain a visa prior to arrival. You are responsible for obtaining any necessary visas. If you do not hold proper visa documents, you will be denied entry into the country.

HEALTH All guests must ensure that they are medically and physically fit for travel. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) provide guidelines as to which vaccinations are required in each country. In many cases inoculations are recommended, but in some circumstances, they are required. We recommend that you check with your health care professional or a Travel Medicine Specialist certified by the WHO for guidance.

“I, a Retreat/Program Participant, am aware that Terra Brasilis LLC is in the service business of sharing knowledge of yoga, health and meditation. I recognize that yoga like any activity requires physical exertion that may be strenuous and/or cause physical injury. I am fully aware of the risks and hazards involved. I understand that it is my responsibility to consult with a physician prior to and regarding my participation in this Program. I represent and warrant that I am physically fit and I have no medical condition that would prevent my full participation in the Program.

In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Program, I agree to assume full responsibility for any risks, injuries or damages, known or unknown, which I might incur as a result of participating in this Program.

I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Retreat Organizer, Terra Brasilis LLC, and its owner Raquel Nakid Lacroix and any of her affiliations or companies not stated herein, their officers, directors, employees, agents, teachers, or volunteer staff (collectively “Retreat Organizers”) from and against all claims, actions, demands, proceedings, liabilities, cost and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees, which they may have ascertained against or incurred by them arising as a result of my participation in the Program. Should any dispute arise between the Retreat Organizers and myself, resulting from actions at the Program or from the booking of the reservation, I agree that the dispute will be governed and determined by California law. Any dispute that arises under or relates to my experience with the Retreat Organizer and/or Retreat (whether contract, tort, or both) will be resolved exclusively in the Superior Court of San Diego County, State of California, and the parties expressly waive any right they may otherwise have to cause any such action or proceeding to be brought or tried elsewhere.

I acknowledge and agree that there are no guarantees, stated or implied, made by the Retreat Organizers, regarding any aspect of the Program. Therefore, I, my heirs or legal representatives forever release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue or make any claims of any kind whatsoever against the Retreat Organizers, Terra Brasilis Retreats and its owner or any of the aforementioned parties for any injury, property damage/loss, or death caused by their negligence or other acts.”

The hike until the waterfall starts at Ubatumirim river about 3 km of hike in an open trail inside the banana trees, you will see thick forest, agro forestry yards, streams with red colors where you can swim. Difficulty – low, flat ground.
